Biography
Alexandre Ottoveggio
Multi-Award Winning Filmmaker · Screenwriter · Actor · Director · Producer
Alexandre Ottoveggio is a French-Italian multi-award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter, actor, and director whose work bridges European and international cinema. Based in Stockholm, he has built a career defined by versatility, passion, and a commitment to cinematic storytelling.
He began his journey at a young age on the sets of Hollywood films shot in Morocco, where he gained hands-on experience by working in many different roles — from casting assistant and translator to extra and gaffer. One of the major productions he worked on during this time was Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down, where he served as an assistant in the second unit special effects team.
Later, after moving to the Hudson Valley in the United States, Alexandre deepened his knowledge of cinema by studying cinematography, photography, and directing. Very drawn to independent cinema, he joined the indie community as a young filmmaker and began creating his own short films, developing a strong voice behind the camera. This was the start of his path as a director, where he discovered his true passion for telling stories.
Alongside his directing work, Alexandre built a parallel career as an actor in numerous international films. He expanded his skills further by training in stunt performance and had the opportunity to work with several stunt coordinators on major productions, including Inception by Christopher Nolan and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen by Swedish director Lasse Hallström, among others. Over the years, he has shared sets with many well-known actors and filmmakers, yet his real passion has always remained directing and storytelling.
As a filmmaker, Alexandre has directed numerous short films, each one shaped by his relentless dedication to the craft. One of his most personal projects took more than two years to complete — during which he even sold his car to keep filming, a testament to his determination as an independent filmmaker.
In 2019, he directed Another Day on Earth, shot during the peak of a harsh Stockholm winter. With heavy snowstorms as a backdrop and an ensemble of Swedish actors, the film captures both the beauty and intensity of Scandinavian landscapes. He also directed When It’s Not Your Time and Paradise River, two powerful films shot in upstate New York and Pennsylvania with American actors and crews, blending European sensibility with American indie spirit.
In Sweden, Alexandre directed Alien Activity and Fury Man, projects that allowed him to experiment with genre and narrative form. He went on to make Until Dawn and Last Mile to Paradise, both of which were recognized on the international festival circuit for their originality and cinematic style.
Most recently, he completed The Zone, a science fiction film shot in the summer on the southern coast of Öland, Sweden. This project continues his exploration of bold, independent cinema rooted in striking locations and strong visual storytelling.
In addition to filmmaking, Alexandre is deeply committed to sharing his knowledge with the next generation. With over 30 years of experience in cinema, he leads workshops and coaching sessions focused on micro-budget filmmaking, script development, and acting techniques. He enjoys guiding young filmmakers through the process of turning limited resources into powerful stories, drawing on the many lessons he has learned across his career. For Alexandre, art is not just expression but a vital part of society: “Art is a supreme universe. We need it to guide our society in the right direction. A country with no art is a desert land.” Alexandre continues to grow as a filmmaker, developing projects that reflect both his European roots and his international outlook. His films bring together technical craft and emotional authenticity, with a focus on bold, cinematic ideas told with honesty and heart.
